Brian joins the Cubs as the team's third base coach ... holds 38 years of experience in professional baseball beginning in 1979 ... served as Boston's third base coach, infield instructor and baserunner instructor the last five seasons... Prior to Boston, spent time as a manager, coach or scout in the Yankees, Diamondbacks and Blue Jays organizations, beginning in 1984... Was the third base coach for the 2014 A.L. All-Star Team ... served on John Farrell's coaching staff for the MLB All-Star Series in Japan in November of 2014... Spent 11 years as a coach in the Blue Jays organization, starting in 2002... Served on major league staffs for Buck Showalter both with the Yankees (1994-95) and Diamondbacks (1998-2000)... Compiled a 300-293 (.506) record as a minor league manager in the Yankees system from 1988-90, 1992 and 2001-02... Named Gulf Coast League Manager of the Year in 1988, his first season as a manager, leading the Yankees to the league championship ... in 2001, led the Tampa Yankees to the Florida State League title... Was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame on August 3, 2014... Brian is in his first season as the Cubs third base coach following five seasons as Boston's third base coach and infield and baserunning instructor from 2013-17 ... all told, has been a coach, manager or scout since 1984... In his five seasons with Boston, the Red Sox owned the majors highest combined fielding percentage between second base and shortstop (.985, 106 E/6,908 TC)... Assisted Hanley Ramirez with his transition to first base in 2016 ... Ramirez committed only four errors in 1,043 chances, marking the sixth-highest single-season fielding percentage (.996) at the position in Red Sox history... Coached Dustin Pedroia, who earned a Rawlings Gold Glove Award in both 2013 and 2014 ... Xander Bogaerts was named a Rawlings Gold Glove finalist at SS in 2015 with a .984 fielding percentage, after he posted a .975 mark at the position in 2014... Had two stints as Toronto's big league third base coach (2002-07, 2010- 12), and worked on John Farrell's staff in 2011-12 ... was Toronto's bench coach from 2008-09...
